Thomas Seymour Card Table

Thomas Seymour Card Table

An outstanding mahogany gaming, or card, table with a lovely double lyre (harp) base. The finish is original and in great condition. The decorative features painted on the legs are acanthus and may have been painted by John Penniman. All of the brass is original, including the ormolu on the apron. The original iron strapping connecting the legs to the base is present. This piece incorporates a small piece of ebony wood on the lyre base that is characteristic of Thomas Seymour. The mahogany has exceptionally beautiful figuring and the table is especially refined in design. When closed, the table is 17 ½” deep, 35.5” wide, and 29.5” tall. The construction and form details match piece #112 on pages 358, 359 in the Furniture Masterworks of John and Thomas Seymour. The legs have been repaired a long time ago(see pictures) but the table is sound and ready for use. Swivel top. Made in Boston, Massachusetts, Gates Antiques Ltd. is proud to represent this piece which is in a local Richmond home. Circa 1806-1815.
