Imari Sculpture

Imari Sculpture

An amazing Imari sculpture of the Japanese god, Oniwaki. Imari statuary is very rare and this piece is exceptional. Oniwaki lived at the temple Hong Raijin. While he is there he finds the giant carp that had eaten his mother. Carving revenge, Oniwaki battles and kills the giant carp. Look closely and one can see a smile on his face! Standing 11.5” tall, this is an impressive piece. It is 10.5” wide, and 7” deep. This piece is in excellent condition with a very, shallow chip in the bow on Oniwaki’s head. Japanese. Circa 1890-1910.
