Bird’s Eye Maple Chest

An eye popping, Cherry, four drawer chest with Bird’s Eye Maple accents! It is hard to decide what strikes one first with this chest, the size or the drawer fronts. Consider the size, it is a very desirable 36″ tall, 39″ wide, and 17 5/8″ deep. That’s right! It was made less than 18″ deep. This is an unheard of size for a chest of drawers. However, the vibrant Bird’s Eye Maple with mahogany trim is equally compelling. The eye simply stops at the drawers. With time, one starts to see the string inlay and banding on the front of the top and at the base. Or, the eye may drift to the sweet Hepplewhite bracket feet and elegant apron. Regardless, this chest has a lot going for it. The primary wood on the case is cherry. The top does have a few, small separations but they are stable. The hardware may not be original but it looks great on it.

As to the pictures you see below, this piece was a challenge to photograph accurately. The most accurate pictures are the overall top picture and the last one on the list. (This was taken when it arrived in our shop.) All in all, it is a beautiful piece.
