Bow Front Bachelor’s Chest
A gorgeous bow front, bachelor’s chest of drawers. Bachelor’s chests are hard to find, bow front chests are extremely rare. This particular chest has string inlay on each drawer. The top and bottom are banded. The banding changes shades from light to dark. This element was very popular in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and is seen in many card tables from this period. Overall, it stands only 34 1/4″ tall and is 21 1/8″ deep at the center. It is a bit wider than bachelor’s chests are normally at 40 9/16″. We believe this was needed in order to make the bow front look proportionately correct. The top is a single board of beautiful mahogany. White pine is the secondary wood. American. Circa 1800.
