A beautiful engraving of Virginia by Captain John Smith during his adventures in Jamestown, Virginia. It features a brave in the upper right hand side and Chief Powhatan with his children and wives in a grass hut on the left. Jamestown is marked along with Captain’s Smith explorations. This engraving was a part of his 2 volume series “The Travels, Adventures, and Observations of Captaine John Smith”. Published in 1629, it was reprinted once in Richmond, VA in 1819. This is the reprint. Originally, this engraving would have been folded up inside the pages. Some folds and some very light staining from the book can be seen. The visible part of the engraving is 12 3/4″ by 16 1/4″ and the frame is 20 1/2″ by 24″. This image is in excellent condition.
