A lovely, Martha Washington Chair. This piece is elegant and comfortable. Made out of solid cherry with poplar secondary, this chair is quite rare.The vast majority of these chairs are English. Look closely, one will see the molded arms. Furthermore, the stretcher base is mortis and tenoned into the legs with a dovetailed stretcher. The back is 42 ¼” tall with the seat being a bit shorter than normal, but still comfortable, at 16”. American, probably New England. Circa 1800.
