Chippendale Bench

A lovely Chippendale bench for one. Commonly referred to as vanity benches, this was a flexible piece that could easily move anywhere in the house. This particular one is outstanding. It has a great cabrio leg but it is the ball and claw feet that really sets it apart. Look closely at the feet and one will see the “hair” on the claws with the ball peeping through at the bottom of the foot and on its backside. This extraordinary detail is rarely seen on Chippendale ball and claw feet. The knee blocks are originally and have some carving as well. It is 22 1/2″ wide and 19″ deep from knee to knee. It is 18″ tall. Overall, it has been refinished at some point and we reupholstered the seat. Mahogany. English. Circa 1775.
