A beautiful and unique Empire serving table. At first glance, the table appears to be a card table. In truth, it is built exactly the same way and style as a gaming table. The top rotates and folds over.While it does work as one, it would be the largest card table we have ever owned at 48” wide. More than likely, this was a serving table that was fitted with a card table top for additional seating for a small luncheon. Regardless of its original use, the table is striking. The flame mahoganies are brilliant. The curves and proportions sublime. However, it is the top that really makes this table stand out. When one tries to lift the top, the weight and density is immediately realized. This carries through the entire piece. (It isn’t light!) What this means is that the top is most likely made out of Cuban, or San Domingo, mahogany. Each board in the top is one piece. That is extremely rare for the time period this was made and is very desirable. Overall, it is 48” wide, 23 7/8” deep, and 30” tall. When the top is opened, it becomes a square at 48” by 48”. The finish has that wonderful luster only time gives. Lastly, it has three French style game table hinges are set in the top. This piece has to come from a major urban center, like Philadelphia or New York. American. Circa 1845.

Please note the finish on the top is even and matches the base. We had a rough time with glare and reflections on the top when photographing. In particular, when the top is open. It is a beautiful table.
