Lidded Imari bowl with Foo Dogs

A charming and unusual lidded bowl. At first glance, one thinks it is a sugar bowl but it is a bit too large for that.Standing 6” tall, the amount of sugar that would have been needed to fill it would have cost a small fortune. Thus, it is called a lidded bowl with Foo dog handles. The Food dog handles are delightful and very rare in Imari. Look closely at the handle. It has a bit of a Victorian flare to it. Overall, this is a very good pieces. It has two, incredibly tiny nicks on the mouth of the bowl that are hard to even feel. It has a width of 6 ¼” and the mouth’s diameter is 4 ½”. All three handles are in excellent condition. Japanese. Circa 1885.
