Mahogany Bow Front China Cabinet

Mahogany Bow Front China Cabinet

This beautiful bow front china cabinet is made out of solid mahogany. The large majority of bow front cabinets are made out of oak so finding one out of mahogany is very special. On top of that, the carving is absolutely outstanding. Start at the top and look at the cornice. The carving is similar to gadrooning or rope. Then one’s eye travels to the griffons that flank the main door. Below them, one can see fluting. Next, the shelving and mirrored back are seen. Incredibly, the mirrored back is all one piece and is original. Don’t worry about moving it though. The back comes off! The shelves are removable and are notched for plates or platters. Lastly, the paw feet are nicely executed and really help pull the entire piece together. It is a nice size at 67 ½” tall, 45 ½” wide, and only 17” deep. American. Circa 1890.
