Maryland Chest

Maryland Chest

A sweet, bachelor’s chest of drawers.  This chest is a great size at 37 1/4″ wide, 33 3/4″ tall, and only 19 1/8″ deep.  The proportions are delightful.  Overall, the chest is in good condition.  The finish has a nice “glow” to it.  There are a few repairs on the drawer fronts and on the top of the chest(see pictures below).  One piece of the trim on the left side of the top is replaced too.  Here again, it is very well done and not detectable without serious, close inspection.  However, they are very well done and did not discourage me from purchasing the piece.  The feet are original while the pulls are replaced.  It should be noted that pulls are in the original holes.  Made out of mahogany, the secondary woods are poplar and yellow pine.  Due to the style and wood choices, this piece was most likely made in Maryland.  Circa 1780.
