Blue Fitzhugh Comb Box
This rare Blue Fitzhugh, or Nanking, comb or brush box is incredible. First, the form is very desirable. Comb or brush boxes were originally meant for the bedroom.
Boxes like this one were heavily used which leads to them being scarce. There is no doubt the top is original to the base. The artistic design on the box is beautiful. It is 7 5/8″ long, 3 7/8″ wide, and 2 5/8″ tall. Today, people use it on the top of any piece of furniture in any room. However, many like to use it as a small jewelry or watch box in their bed room. Regardless of how one uses it, it is a beautiful piece. Chinese Export. Circa 1875.
