Serpentine Hepplewhite Sideboard

Serpentine Hepplewhite Sideboard

An inlaid, mahogany sideboard with a serpentine front. There is a whole lot to love about this piece. Look at all of the barber pole inlay and the delicate leaf on the leg. The mahogany on the front of the piece is dynamic and visually appealing. Physically, it a great size at 69 1/8″ long and 41 1/8″ tall. The depth varies. At its maximum, it is 25 5/8″ deep but it feels more like 24 1/4″. (The measurement at the top above the interior legs.) Truly, this sideboard has a commanding presence without being overpowering. When one views these pictures please note that this beautiful piece proved to be a challenge to photograph, especially the top. The overall photo and the pictures of the sides do the best conveying the real color. This piece has been refinished and the interior of the bottom retains an older cream color paint. (The color can be changed to meet the buyer’s taste.) One rear leg has been properly repaired which is only visible from the rear. The pulls are replaced but the escutcheon are original. The lower interior has been painted at some point. This cream interior can be repainted by us at the purchaser’s request. Overall, this piece is in good condition. Lastly, some documents accompany this piece. They include an article and some hand written notes that indicate this piece spent a significant time in Connecticut. This piece is definitely New England, and very possibly Connecticut. Circa 1800.
