VA Heart Pine Cupboard

VA Heart Pine Cupboard

This is a charming, petite heart pine cupboard. Really, the word “cute” and “charming” come to mind when one sees this piece for the first time. Overall, the cupboard looks great and is very functional. The cornice and feet are all  original. It has been refinished and the remnants of the original red paint can be seen occasionally. Upon closer examination, one will notice some inconsistencies of construction throughout the piece. First, the door frames are not made uniformly on the interior. In other words, the glass door is square on the outside but it isn’t on the inside. These inaccurate construction techniques imply the piece was made by someone who was not trained and are wonderful. It stands only 66” 3/8” tall and is 15” deep and 36 ½” wide at the cornice. The door pulls and locks are replaced. We found this piece in a backcountry in Powhatan, VA. It was probably made somewhere nearby. American. Circa 1820.
