Pair of North Carolina Chairs

Pair of North Carolina Chairs, Circa 1850-1875 A nice pair of country, ladder back chairs. Notice the unusual turnings on the legs and back.

They appear to be the work of Rowe from Granville, NC. Standing only 36 1/2″ tall, these chairs were probably meant for work like shucking corn or snapping green beans. The seats are made out of a synthetic rush that is very durable. (It can even be washed off) They are 18 3/4″ wide and 16 1/2″ deep. Originally, the chairs would have been painted but the painting has been off of them for a long time. Attributed to Rowe of Granville, NC. Circa 1850-1875.
