One word just doesn’t do it when it comes to describing this striking tureen. Made in China during the 19th century, this piece is a masterwork of beauty. First, it features 16 panels. Yes, 16! We have never had so many panels on apiece before.Of course, the stag is the first thing one notices. Its strength and majesty are on full display. Then there are all the colors and the gold…oh my, so much gold! The details throughout the entire piece are so well articulated. However, it is the handles one should really pay attention to. Look at the thickness (for strength during use) and the leaves. Just so well done hiding that thickness and not making them overwhelm the sides. Oh, how utterly striking this piece is. It is 13 1/2″ wide, 9 1/2″ deep, and 10 1/2″ tall. Chinese. Circa 1880.
