Bird’s Eye Maple Empire Server
An Empire server featuring a rare wood combination of Bird’s Eye Maple and Cherry. While the solid cherry sides are nice, it is the Bird’s Eye Maple top and front that really make this piece a sight to behold.Seldom does one find Bird’s Eye Maple pieces made during this period of time and of this type. The front is brilliant and…wow! While the bird’s eye top is less pronounced, it does go well with the front. The two doors have 2 drawers above them with hidden finger holds. An unusual feature to the drawers is the bottom drawer must be pulled out in order to open the upper drawer. Furthermore, the feet are bold and strong. They are attached in the most unusual way, by 6″ bed bolts. It is a nice size at 43″ wide, 22 1/2″ deep at the top, 24 5/8″ deep at the feet, and 30 3/8″ tall. Lastly, the finish on the front and top are original. (There is some discoloration that is clearly seen in the pictures from time.) The cherry sides have been restored by us and look great with the rest of the finish. American. Circa 1835.
