Brilliant Imari Bowl

A beautiful, Imari bowl with brilliant colors. Standing 4.5” tall with an exterior diameter of 10 1/8”, this bowls really stands out. First, the exterior is as ornately decorated as they come. It has complex patterns that interconnect beautifully and are bold. The interior carries that same element around the outer edge and down for about 2”. Then it stops and leaves a simple white field with no additional color until the flat, center portion of the bowl. The center portion is dominated by blue and white but has the same fine detailed strokes as the rest of the bowl. Finally, the bottom of the bowl is marked with four characters that mean Fuki Choshun, or “good luck”. The bowl itself has a thickness/strength to it that really helps this piece command attention. Japanese. Circa 1885
