A rare Fredericksburg, VA Chippendale straight leg chair with the original yellow pine slip seat. The primary wood is walnut. Circa 1780.
The rear legs have been repaired where they meet the crest rail. However, it’s an old repair that is well done and is strong.
The mortis and tenon joints pass through the legs in the back of the chair. The joints are pegged too.
The construction and style are heavily influenced by Walker out of Fredericksburg but I think it came out of a different shop.
