A magnificent, convex mirror covered in gold leaf. What an incredible piece! Look closely at the eagle. One can see the tension in the carving of it unfurling its wings to take off. The detail and movement are wonderful. The acanthus leaf carvings are of equal quality too. Most importantly, all of the elements do appear to be original. From the backside, I suspect the right wing has been repaired at some point in its life. It was done beautifully and one cannot tell from the front. It is approximately 36 1/2″ tall and 23 1/2″ wide from eagle to leaf and leaf to leaf. It has been about 20 years since we have had one in this condition. If one is looking for a convex mirror, it would be difficult to find better. Circa 1830.
