An eye-catching Imari charger. Measuring 12.5″ in diameter, this piece really pops. At first glance, one will notices the lack of the iron red color. It is only used on the peacock’s tails. Then the gold…gold, gold, and more gold. This piece is covered in it. Yet, it is tasteful and not over the top. The blue offers a nice contrast to the gold and helps “cool” the piece down a bit. In addition, all of the green decorations are raised. Next, there are three butterflies and 6 peacocks depicted in the panels. These are unusual subjects for Imari. Finally, the scalloped and pinched edge is wonderful. Overall, it is in excellent condition. Japanese. Circa 1885.
