Magnificent Deer Ink Stand

A magnificent desk accessory.  Overall, this piece is remarkable. Simply put, pictures do not do this piece justice. 

The deer is beautifully sculpted and really grabs the eye. There is a gracefulness to the shape of the handles and base. Even the ink bottles are cut!The deer is attached through the bottom and both of the ink bottles are original. The handles and feet are intact and in excellent condition too. Marked and made by Henry Daniel and Thomas Richard Arter this piece is a show stopper. Made somewhere between the late 19th century and early 20th century, it is 12” wide, from handle to handle, and 7 3/4” deep. The inkwells are 2” square. Overall, the entire piece is 4” tall. The bottom is marked. Thomas Henry Daniel & Thomas Richard Arter went into business around 1885 and closed after both partners died in the early 1930’s. Silver plate.  This piece has been polished and professionally lacquered. Made in Birmingham, England.  Circa 1900
