“Magnificent”, “Incredible”, “Gorgeous” are just a few of the words that come to mind when one sees this sideboard for the first time. This piece is simply…”WOW”. Made in the early 20th century, it was made in the US. It features incredible inset and string inlay work. The use of high quality figured mahogany makes the piece “pop” even more. It is 75 5/8″ wide, 41 3/4″ tall, and only 22 5/8″ deep. The depth is fantastic! Usually, sideboards of this size are 5-8″ deeper. This gives the piece a sense of style and almost makes it feel…petite, even though it is not. The inlay starts on the top and doesn’t stop until the cuffing on the feet. All of the pulls are original and very pretty.
This piece is VERY similar to one at Winterthur, http://museumcollection.winterthur.org/print-record.php?srchfld=irn&name=5878&port=40138&output=HTML&version=100. One can easily see the similarities and how our sideboard is based on this famous New York City design. If you want a piece folks will remember, no need to go any further. American. Circa 1900-1920.
