Pair of Inlaid Knife Boxes

Pair of Inlaid Knife Boxes

A gorgeous pair of inlaid knife boxes with their original interiors. The lid features an inlaid star while the edges are inlaid in an alternating herringbone pattern.

This pattern is continued on the back. Original interiors are extremely difficult to find plus they are usually very pretty since knife boxes were left open while entertaining guests. The interior pattern is alternates light and dark with a star that matches the one on the front. This pair boast their original ogee bracket feet. The finish is very old and has a rich luster to it. There are some minor repairs on the rear side of each box and alone the bottom of the backs. These in no way take away from the majesty of this pair. The figured mahogany veneer used on the exteriors completes the pair. Late Georgian. English. Circa 1780.
