Serpentine, Blockfront Chest

A beautiful, serpentine four drawer chest. Made out of solid cherry, this chest has a lot going for it. First, it has a serpentine, blockfront. This means that the serpentine flattens out at the edge. This is more difficult to make and thus “better”. Second, it has all of its original hardware and feet. Indeed, those pulls are original. They almost have a bit of a folky feel to them even if, they are not. However, it is the size combined with the above that steals the show. It is only 31 5/8” tall, 38 ¾” wide, and 21 ½” deep. Yes, that is correct…it is only 31 5/8” tall! What an amazing size!! The front edge of the top has a bit of banding but it is very subdued and hard to see. Lastly, the top is two boards but the seam is clearly visible on the left side of the top. There are a couple of pictures with a ring show this below. The chest is New England, probably Connecticut or Maine. Circa 1800.

Price: $3250
