A classic mahogany, stick barometer. This barometer features all the favorite elements of a stick barometer. It is sleek and has an exposed tube. It features a broken pediment arch and a door over its original brass plate. The body and base feature a tiny molded edge in the shape of a quarter column (note the inset piece of mother of pearl). All parts of the barometer are inlaid too. It has been restored and is in working order. Overall, it is 39 ½” long, 5 ¼” wide, and projects out from the wall 2 ¾”. The dial is signed and reads “D. Stampa 14 Leith Street Edinburgh”. This same name and address are documented in Glasgow between 1800-1835. While it is likely that they are one and the same one cannot help but imagine what the odds are that both locations are accurate. More than likely, the town name was changed for marketing purposes since both cities are so close. Scottish (English). Circa 1820.
