Striking Imari Bowl

A lovely Imari bowl. There are several points that really make this bowl striking. First, the interior really pops. The detail and use of light touch of gold really shows the artist knew how to balance beauty and proportion. Secondly, the outside rim is very unusual. It features three iron red medallions separated by 6 blue squares. All of which is outlined in gold. However, it is the delicate iron red lines…or vines that really make it pop. These details can clearly be seen in the pictures but in person the impact is subtle and…striking. All in all, this is a beautiful piece. It is 9 7/8″ in diameter and 4″ tall.  Japanese. Circa 1885.
