A fabulous, Virginia candlestand with bird cage, tilt top. Made out of solid walnut, this is one of the best candlestands we have ever owned. First, the proportions are excellent at 28” tall and 21” in diameter. It has beautiful, cabriole legs with a delightfully turned baluster.However, it is the top that steals the show. First, it has a bird cage which means the top can spin around. Next, the edge of the underside of the top is beveled inward. This gives the top the illusion it is thin while being thick enough to not warp. Additionally, it is made out of one board. Last but not least, the top is inlaid with banding! This is an incredibly rare feature in the 18th century and sets this table apart from almost all of its peers. It has an older finish but it has been refinished at some point. All in all, this is an outstanding table that exemplifies the prosperity of colonial Virginia. Queen Anne. Circa 1780.
