Welsh Clothes Press

This Welsh clothes cupboard is a wonderfully rare piece. Made in 2 parts, this piece is primarily comprised of English Oak with mahogany accents on all the panels and doors on its front.(The sides are paneled as well but lack the mahogany.)Next, it has fluted quarter columns. Both of these expensive details help set this piece apart from its peers. The interior features all of the original pegs in two rows. A removable shelf (not pictured) can be fitted in between to give this piece even more storage! The lower part features three drawers over two. While the hardware has been replaced on the cupboard, it does look nice and is fitting. All of the cornice and feet are original. It stands 77 ¾” tall, 66″ wide, and only 23.5″ deep. It is pegged and the back has rosehead nails. It was refinished some time ago. There are a few spots that could be “repaired”.

All in all, this is an excellent example. The size is great and the condition (as found) is in excellent condition. English, and possibly Welsh, Circa 1720.
