A lovely, English oak tall case clock with mahogany accents. The clock is in excellent condition and appears to have an old, if not original, finish. It features beautiful inlays on the waist with chamfered columns. The base features a broad band inlaid fruit wood that matches the main door. The bonnet has a graceful, broken arch. It is a great size at 7’ 4 ½” tall, 20 ¼” wide, and 9 ½” deep. This clock has a lot of refined inlay which is unusual for an English oak clock. Then again, the face is striking and features green and gold artwork. The clockworks have been fully restored and are 8 day works. The dial is signed “D. King Montrose”. David King produced in the town of Montrose in Angus, Scotland from the early 1820’s to the early 1850’s. Based on the design and style of this clock, we would date it as one of his earlier pieces, probably before 1830.
