What furnishings from the 18th and 19th Century tell us about everyday life

Here are some pictures of Jay Gates giving a talk to a local chapter of the Colonial Dames this past weekend. The talk was entitled “What furnishings from the 18th and 19th Century tell us about everyday life.” During the talk I reviewed items like card tables, chairs, bow front chests, knife boxes, etc. We then talked about each item and how its use differed from today and why. I also covered care of one’s furnishings. Lastly, we discussed downsizing and some of the perils of it.  I gave some tips too.
